Last weekend, funeral services were held for Father Joseph A. Coonan and his mother, Mabel, who passed away within days apart. Father was the former pastor of SJ's parish from 1995 until he was ousted in 2002 for allegations of sexual abuse as a teacher at Oxford High School, long before he entered the seminary. He was ordained in 1989 and his unorthodoxy brought thousands of people back to "church", although it was not what you would expect. There were too many liturgical abuses. Sad. Even though he taught Latin and possibly could have said the Latin Mass, their service was done in the ordinary form, and was not a traditional Requiem Mass. Hopefully, I hope a priest (rebel or not) can do a Requiem for him and his mother at a later date. (You may read the full obituary and sign the guestbook here.)
Requiem aeternam dona ei Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace. Amen.
